When Arya’s birthday was coming up, I knew that I wanted the big present from us to be an easel. Arya loves all things creative, and I just knew an easel would be perfect. I looked at a number of different easels including some wooden ones until I found the Step2 Jumbo Art Easel. It pretty much jumped out at me when I came across it, and I just knew this was the one. (Added bonus came when I finally went to buy it, and there was actually a big sale on it going on at the time…WINNING!)
There is plenty of room on either side for more than one person to draw at a time on the same side which is perfect for our family. While our youngest is still too little to join in the fun just yet, little Miss 2 years old loves having us draw and color with her. The size of this easel allows us to comfortably draw on the same board at the same time. This will continue to come in handy as our youngest gets older and wants to do everything her big sister is doing.
The easel is made from a sturdy plastic should last for more years than we’ll even need it for. It has a chalkboard on one side, a dry erase board on the other, two clips to hold pages, and plenty of storage space for all of her art supplies, coloring books, and sketchbooks. Since there’s enough room for everything to have it’s place, clean up is a relative breeze (assuming your child doesn’t draw all over the sides like my budding artist…that’s easily fixed with a little extra cleaning, though). The only feature it doesn’t have that I wish it did is that the dry erase board isn’t magnetic. However, I’m pleased enough with this easel that we can easily do without.
It was also relatively easy to put together. The only part that I needed my husband’s help for were the screws holding the blue tray to the sides because they go in diagonally, and we needed to each hold from a side, so the pieces wouldn’t move apart. Other than that, one parent can put it together easily.
I’m very glad that we got the size easel we did, and I don’t see my opinion changing anytime soon. If we had gotten a regular sized easel, it would only be a matter of time before we’d need a second one for Iris. With the Step2 Jumbo Art Easel having room for 4 kids, I see this getting plenty of use over the years.
